The factual accuracy of this coat of arms or the file name is disputed.

Reason: The Empire of Trebizond had no specific flag or arms in the Western sense, and while it used the eagle motif on imperial clothing etc, this particular design, including its labelling as "coat of arms" of the Empire, is ahistorical (see file description for more)

АпісаньнеKomnenos-Trebizond-Arms.svg	The alleged/attributed dynastic Arms of the Trebizond branch of the Komnenos [Comnenus, Comneno] family (c. 1204-1461), as described in Rietstap's Armorial. When Constantinople fell during the Fourth Crusade to the Western European and Venetian Crusaders, the Empire of Trebizond was one of the three smaller Greek states that emerged from the wreckage, along with the Empire of Nicaea and the Despotate of Epiros. It was established by Tamar, the most powerful queen of The Empire of Georgia. NOTE: There are no attested "arms of Trebizond", indeed the Trapezuntine state seems to have used pretty much the same symbols as the contemporary Byzantine state. This design dates from the 19th-century armorial of Johannes Rietstap, but it is unclear what its ultimate provenance is. Given that medieval armorials (which Rietstap probably relied on) included all sorts of fanciful "arms" for the more remote realms, these "arms" cannot be regarded as reliably authentic.
